Belkyra

What is it?

Belkyra is an injectable medication used for the non-surgical treatment of submental fullness, commonly referred to as a “double chin.” The active ingredient in Belkyra is deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring molecule in the body that helps break down and absorb dietary fat.

How does it interact with skin?

When injected into the fat beneath the chin, Belkyra causes the destruction of fat cells, resulting in a reduction in the appearance of submental fullness.

What’s the downtime?

It’s essential to avoid touching or rubbing the treated area immediately after the injection. You should also avoid wearing tight-fitting clothing or accessories that could put pressure on the injection site. Swelling and redness are common side effects after Belkyra treatment. They can be more pronounced and “frog-like”  in the first few days and may persist for up to two weeks. Using a cold pack or ice wrapped in a cloth can help reduce swelling and discomfort. over-the-counter pain relievers to manage any discomfort is recommended.

How many treatments are needed?

It is administered as a series of injections over multiple treatment sessions, typically spaced a few weeks apart. Each patient’s desired outcome will affect how many treatments they need.
