Active Acne Therapy

What is it?

Active Acne Treatment is a medical procedure that uses laser technology to target and reduce active acne lesions on the skin. This treatment is designed to help individuals suffering from acne by addressing inflammation and bacteria that contribute to breakouts. Active acne laser treatment can be an effective option for people who do not respond well to topical or oral acne medications or for those who want to supplement their acne management routine with a non-invasive approach.

How does it interact with skin?

The procedure uses a specific type of laser to deliver controlled energy to the targeted area of the skin. The laser energy is absorbed by the porphyrins (pigments) produced by acne-causing bacteria (Propionibacterium acnes). This absorption results in the destruction of the bacteria, reducing the inflammation and redness associated with active acne. The laser can also have an effect on the sebaceous glands, which produce excess oil that can contribute to acne. By targeting these glands, the treatment can help reduce oil production.

What’s the downtime?

We recommend patients to protect their skin from excessive sun exposure and follow a post-treatment skincare regimen as recommended by their provider. After the procedure, you may experience some redness, swelling, and minor discomfort, which usually subsides within a few hours.

How many treatments are needed?

Active acne laser treatment typically involves a series of sessions to achieve the best results. The exact number of sessions required can vary depending on the severity of the acne and the individual’s response to treatment.
